I adore gardening. It's much more satisfying to me than house work...as can be easily deduced by the state of my house vs. the state of my yard on most days.
I put two front flower beds to bed for the winter today. Well mostly. I left a few of the pretty flowering plants in until they die.
It's so reassuring that I won't wake up tomorrow to find that all my hard work has been undone and all the weeds replanted.
And that is why yard work is superior to house work.

I do not enjoy yard work, but I can totally agree with the fact that the effect is longer lasting. :)
Funny Chrissy, how both our moms loved gardening and in my case skipped me and went to Emilie.
My mom, your grandma wants weeds in heaven probably for the same satifiying effect as you are describing.
