Questioning

We spent most of the day yesterday painting the kitchen and dinning room. By "we" I mean Kevin and my mom (thanks guys!). I adore the color! But am now overly paranoid that everyone else will hate it.

Is it bold. Yes.

Is that fitting of my personality and how I like to decorate. Yes.

So why worry now?

The color is called Surfer by Behr. Reminiscent of this color. Episode 614 photo #28. And it also looks a lot like this

We are pairing it with black and white accents which I think will bring everything all together.

I feel a bit protective of this color. Slightly like I do my children's names. My children have very unique names and therefore receive many different reactions when people first hear them. I like this color. It's cheery and it's unique but classy at the same time. But I am realistic in the fact that not everyone will be affected by it as I am.

Why is it that the only bold color allowed on the walls of a kitchen is red? Can't we be bold in the kitchen beyond red?

Is it really that scandalous?

Gasp! Her kitchen is making a statement in a non-reddish fashion. Quick, hurry, let's mock her taste in design.

I'm just not a neutral color kind of gal. Not that I mind neutrals. I am quite fond of them, but when color can be used I tend to take advantage of that.

Thankfully, Kevin has the same opinion as me. Love him for that! I guess I can only hope my home feels inviting to all despite my lack of tradition on the walls.

Wow. That is quite a rant. And no picture included? that's not fair. btw, why do you care if everyone else hates it? If it makes you happy that's enough. No one color is going to affect everyone the same way and you're the one that has/gets to live with it.(Although I'm SURE not everyone else will hate it, you tend to make things look really nice)

That is a really bold color. Do I love it? YES! I wish I could be as brave as Emilie:) Maybe someday when I have walls that have stopping areas...hmmm. I can't wait to see it in real life! Good luck with your list.

so... the color in question is blue? teal? somewhere in between? I agree with Sar, where is the picture? Sounds pretty neat to me, but as someone who's kitchen is bold in a "reddish fashion" may I ask, who attacked your design taste? I've always admired your ability to pull a room together, don't doubt yourself. (Would you be surprised if I told you my ideal home design is beach cottage, with lots of white on white textures and driftwood and seashells everywhere? Ah well, someday when my children are grown...)

No one, yet, has attacked my design taste....to my face anyway. I'm sure it's always on the horizon ;)

I don't want to post a picture until it's all pulled together.

Sarah & Chrissy - MAWAHAHAHAHA! I love you guys. Oh and Chrissy I adore red kitchens but felt the need for something different.

Lyndi - Thanks! I hope you still like it in person.

I was getting all ready to paint my kitchen red, but maybe I won't anymore. :) I'm sure it looks beautiful!

Lori - If you love red. You better paint your kitchen red. Don't change for anyone!

don't foreget that my kitchen is purple with silver dragonflies! I don't care if it isn't a typical kitchen color. I love it. I like your color too by the way, didn't I mention it when you were over last? love ya!

I'm having a hard time picturing the black and white accents... is this just the trim or the cabinets too?

By the way, I tend to draw towards red as my signature color too, but my basement bathroom is a bright sky blue... so, yes I too can be bold!

well what do ya know, we painted our kitchen and joining living room yesterday too! i wish i could say that i LOVE ours, but i'm really struggling with it. i told the guy at the paint store, very specific, "i don't want baby blue, or robin egg blue, help me." and what do you think we have.....baby blue! i'm not blaming him, but seriously, BABY BLUE!! i'm dying, but do you think that kade is about to tape and prep and repaint everything...not a chance. so i guess this is going to have to grow on me for the next several years. i wish i could have chatted with you before, i really do like you color! blues are so hard. and our red/green plaid couch looks sooo good in that room too! HA! oh well huh! can't wait to see it in person, i'm sure it will look great!

In our last house I painted Brady's room a color similar to that (or at least it seems from the pictures) and I LOVED it. It was my favorite room in the house, just because of the color. You've inspired me to paint again (I was leaning towards more neutrals as we are looking for a new house, but where is the fun it that!?) I definitely want to see some pics!!

Katie - what are the chances that two pregnant women talk their husbands into painting their kitchens blue on the same day?!

Must be hormones :)

Bianca - Hooray for looking for houses! I can't wait to see what you find.

Em, it sounds like all the people that matter support your taste! Ha! Ha! Looking forward to seeing it all done. Even if I don't like it I'll be so glad if you do!

I Like it!! I want to see pictures of it when you get it all how you want it.

I love that color! It is beautiful. It shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks of your color taste. It is not their home.

Your color choice is beautimifinous! Way to see outside the red box!! Looks like you are finishing right in time - you should have a baby falling out and day now right? I was sorry to hear about Kim - how is Crissy and her family doing?

Thank you! Chrissy and her family are doing amazing. It's hard but they have such a strong faith that you can't help but want to be like them.

Totally kidding, Em, though I actually do like red and I'd really love to remodel our kitchen, but we have too many other projects to get to first. You go with your bad blue self--it's your house! Love it! Post pictures, I'd love to see it.
