Second Tri

I can't remember what Kevin said last year just before I was to start my first ever triathlon, but one verbal chiding led to another and it soon became clear that he either enter the triathlon the following year or forever be a yellow bellied chicken.

Or something like that.

The details are fuzzy.

Fast forward to September 12, 2009 where I found myself attending the Bear Lake Brawl Triathlon for the second time. This year, however, I did not compete ( I really am using the word "compete" loosely here). Kevin did. Along with my BFF, Tobi (who if you remember competed the same triathlon I did last year), and her brother.

He was nervous. But he had trained well. The swim caught him completely off guard although he has done open water swims before. The wetsuit he was wearing was a bit too small making him feel like he was choking and not allowing him to relax.

I have a picture of him coming out from the swim but......I'm pretty sure he will love me more if I don't post it.

With such an unexpected start I think he went into the bike portion a little bit apprehensive, but he more than made up for any time lost. He rocked the bike!

The run was the part he was looking forward to the very least, but after the swim, he didn't mind so much.

He didn't get the time he wanted but he is happy to say," I completed a triathlon and no thank you I don't think I'll do another one, but I would love to take up biking."

We are very proud of him. Those races are never easy.

Way to go Kev!

Questioning

We spent most of the day yesterday painting the kitchen and dinning room. By "we" I mean Kevin and my mom (thanks guys!). I adore the color! But am now overly paranoid that everyone else will hate it.

Is it bold. Yes.

Is that fitting of my personality and how I like to decorate. Yes.

So why worry now?

The color is called Surfer by Behr. Reminiscent of this color. Episode 614 photo #28. And it also looks a lot like this

We are pairing it with black and white accents which I think will bring everything all together.

I feel a bit protective of this color. Slightly like I do my children's names. My children have very unique names and therefore receive many different reactions when people first hear them. I like this color. It's cheery and it's unique but classy at the same time. But I am realistic in the fact that not everyone will be affected by it as I am.

Why is it that the only bold color allowed on the walls of a kitchen is red? Can't we be bold in the kitchen beyond red?

Is it really that scandalous?

Gasp! Her kitchen is making a statement in a non-reddish fashion. Quick, hurry, let's mock her taste in design.

I'm just not a neutral color kind of gal. Not that I mind neutrals. I am quite fond of them, but when color can be used I tend to take advantage of that.

Thankfully, Kevin has the same opinion as me. Love him for that! I guess I can only hope my home feels inviting to all despite my lack of tradition on the walls.

It came, I survived

I completed the Bear Lake Brawl triathlon on Saturday while 13 weeks pregnant....without throwing up once!

But before you start calling the local news stations or sending sponsors my way you need to know,

I pretty much came in last.

OK, there were about 15 people who came in after me. ( I just got the official results. I place 198 out 201)

To illustrate how "last" I was:

my best friend, who is also pregnant and due two weeks before me, started 15 minutes after me and finished 25 minutes before me.

A 58 year old man, someone TWICE my age, who ALSO started 15 minutes after me, passed me on the bike as if I was frozen. I couldn't even see him anymore two minutes later.

I cried when I crossed the finish line because I thought I was last.
(I knew I wasn't going to win, but my biggest fear was coming in last)

I cried when I crossed the finish line because I had a lot of family there cheering me on and I've always been a HUGE cry baby when it comes to underdog stories.

I cried when I crossed the finish line because I'm pregnant and, lets face it, I cry at car commercials.

However, I am glad I did it. I'm glad I finished. I don't think I'll do another, but I can't really be sure because it still hurts to walk so who knows what I'll think when my body doesn't remember the pain anymore.

I DO know that I will not be attempting anything like this again while I have young children. I wasn't able to train as much as I need which led to my 3rd from the bottom ranking. Maybe when the kids are older and I have more times that I can get away.

Don't quote me on that....I said MAYBE.
